Netherlands vs USA

Netherlands 3-1 USA

The Netherlands advance to the World Cup quarterfinals as the United States lose in Qatar.

With a 3-1 victory over the United States, the Netherlands advanced to the 2022 World Cup quarterfinals. The Europeans got off to the best possible start thanks to a goal from Memphis Depay, and the Americans were left with a challenging task after Daley Blind's identical goal just before halftime. A tense finish was set up when Haji Wright cut the deficit in half in the 76th minute, but shortly after, Denzel Dumfries announced the victory.

In a 3-1 victory over the United States, Denzel Dumfries led the Netherlands into the 2022 World Cup quarterfinals with a goal and two assists.

The USA blitzed the Dutch early in the game with good energy. Tyler Adams' deft flick gave Christian Pulisic a chance in the second minute, but Andries Noppert's outstanding foot save stopped the Chelsea forward's effort.

After some meticulous Dutch buildup, the goal was scored against the flow of play. Dumfries, who received possession of the ball, was able to pull it back for Memphis Depay, who scored with a first-time shot.

From that point on, the Netherlands controlled the game as the USA found it difficult to assert themselves in midfield. To suit their own pace, the Dutch were happy to sluggish the game. The Netherlands doubled their lead with a nearly identical goal to their first one just as the US began to look more dangerous at the end of the first half. Once more, Dumfries was helpful because his low pass into the box found Daley Blind, who was able to evade Sergino Dest and score.

The USA attempted to regain momentum in the second half, and nine minutes after coming on, Haji Wright flicked in an unintentional looping goal. The US persisted in exerting pressure on the Dutch, but their momentum was short-lived because Dumfries scored on a volley in the 81st minute.

Later on Saturday, the Netherlands will face the victor of the contest between Argentina and Australia.
