CHRISTOPHER NKUNKU
JOINS CHELSEA ON SIX-
YEAR £52M DEAL FROM RB
LEIPZIG - 'INCREDIBLY
HAPPY!':
After being
speculated about for a year, Chelsea of the Premier League has
officially announced the signing of France forward Christopher Nkunku from RB
Leipzig on a six-year contract. Despite missing a lot of time last season due
to injuries, Nkunku finished as the Bundesliga's joint-top scorer.
Chelsea of
the Premier League has announced the signing of French attacker Christopher
Nkunku on a six-year deal through 2029 from RB Leipzig.
Nkunku, 25,
joined Leipzig in 2019 from Paris Saint-Germain and has since made 172
appearances for Leipzig across all competitions, scoring 70 goals.
With Niclas
Fullkrug of Werder Bremen, he shared the Bundesliga's all-time scoring lead
this season with 16 goals. Even though he missed nine games due to injury,
Nkunku accomplished this achievement.
According to
BBC Sport, the cost is rumored to be £52 million.
Nkunku
expressed his joy upon joining Chelsea on the club's website.
"A lot
of work was put into getting me to the club, and I'm looking forward to meeting
my new coach, and my teammates, and showcasing my abilities on the pitch for the
Chelsea fans."I've played in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1, and now I want to
play in the Premier League, one of the world's top leagues.
"I look
forward to this challenge and will be honored to don the Chelsea shirt,"
you say.
Romelu
Lukaku, Timo Werner, and Kai Havertz are just a few of the strikers Chelsea has
added since Diego Costa left in 2017, but they haven't found a
consistent goalscorer.
"Christopher
has proven himself one of the standout attacking players in European football
over the past two seasons and will add quality, creativity, and versatility to
our squad," continued Chelsea's co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and
Paul Winstanley.
He has
proven his talent at the top level when playing for France and RB Leipzig, and
we are eager for him to reunite with his new teammates before the start of the
new campaign.
The club's
first significant acquisition under the leadership of new manager Mauricio
Pochettino is Nkunku, although more acquisitions are anticipated.
While the
Blues have long coveted Brighton midfielder, Moises Caicedo, speculations have
it that Chelsea is considering triggering the striker Nicolas Jackson from
Villarreal's €35 million (about £29.9 million) release clause.
N'Golo
Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, Hakim Ziyech, and Edouard Mendy are among the players
that may leave for Saudi Arabia, along with Havertz, who has been linked to
Arsenal.
